Carmeuse
Carmeuse is a major lime producer, an activity that involves both quarrying and production of lime (which generates unavoidable CO2). While the first requires a lot of effort relating to stakeholder engagement and permitting, the latter requires attention to climate and energy policy developments.
Our Managing Partner Philippe Putman helped Carmeuse to structure relationships with its stakeholders (from local and state level to EU level) and to ensure its voice was heard at all levels. Major files he was involved in were ETS, CCUS, Net Zero Industry Act, Renewable Energy Directive and basically all policy files related to the EU Green Deal. He also took care of press relations and relations with foreign embassies based in Brussels.
The “Samen voor Slim Statiegeld” project
This Belgian Digital Deposit Return System project was initiated by Fost Plus (Packaging Waste Recycling coordinator), Comeos (retail industry) and Fevia (Food industry). The project needed a spokesperson and coordinator of public affairs, ensuring all advocacy messages coming from one of the project initiators are well aligned. Publicea represented by Philippe Putman happily took up the challenge.
The project which is currently in the preparation phase pending a political decision, will have a major impact on Belgian beverage consumers, as a deposit will be charged upon acquisition of a beverage can/bottle which needs to be redeemed by scanning a QR code before being discarded in the “blue bag”. Needless to say that the potential implementation of such a major project triggers a lot of discussion amongst the sectors involved, the political world and the public in general. It is Philippe’s task to ensure the project is well understood and finally accepted by this complex puzzle of stakeholders.
